Infant Chiropractic Care
It’s amazing what a newborn child has to go through to become a part of this world. If you think about the incredible stress that happens to a baby and a mother during the birth process, it’s not surprising to see how they can be subluxated, not to mention when something goes wrong!
Because the first year of life is such an important one for spinal development, and the potential for trauma is high ( multiple minor falls and collisions), it is recommended that a child’s first spinal evaluation should be performed during this period. Many parents opt for a newborn checkup shortly after birth since their relatively large baby will pass through a seemingly small passageway. Newborn checkups can reduce a child’s risk of developing colic, ear infections, and digestive or sleeping problems.
Infant Milestone Checkups
- After the birth process
- When baby starts to hold his/her head up
- When baby sits up
- When baby starts to crawl
- When baby starts to stand/walk
Did you know that the best time to get your spine checked for subluxations is when you’re an infant? The nervous system is needed for the proper growth and development of children. There are “windows of opportunity” when certain parts of the body and brain grow. If the nervous system is not working when the opportunity arises, it could be missed. So, get them checked early!
Benefits For Infants
- Helps to prevent scoliosis
- Helps to reduce the number of ear infections
- Helps to reduce colic
- Improve ADD/ADHD
- Improve asthma
- Improve indigestion
- Improve sleeping habits
- Help with feeding
You want the best for your newborn, and that includes optimum health. Chiropractic care provides a natural alternative for treating common newborn problems. And a gentle adjustment just may make a dramatic difference.
Kids and Chiropractic Care
Many parents ask, “Why should a child need chiropractic care?”. To answer, we simply ask them, “How many times did your child fall today, just learning to walk?” Often, it is at least 5 to 10. How many times in a week, in a month, in a year? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that our children’s bodies take a beating at this age, not to mention any previous birth trauma. So how long do we want to wait to get the problem fixed? Until they’re in their thirties or forties when their nervous system has so deteriorated they have a hard time bending over? Let’s fix the problem before it becomes a health hazard!
Benefits For Children
- Help with Bedwetting.
- Improve ADD/ADHD
- Help Prevent and Decrease the Number of Ear Infections.
- Improve Digestion
- Improve Sleeping Habits
Spinal Checkups Are Vital
If your child is suffering from any of the following common conditions, it is essential to get his/her spine checked for vertebral subluxations – not as a treatment for these conditions, but because all children, especially if they are ill, need healthy spines. Being free of blockages to the flow of energy and information over his/her nervous system can make a big difference in your child’s physical and emotional health.

Spinal Adjustments
One concern parents often ask us about is the way we adjust to an infant. Infant adjustments are vastly different from adult adjustments. A light-touch technique is used, much like an infant massage. Often times infants may stay asleep during the entire treatment. As a child grows, age-appropriate techniques and instruments, such as an Activator, can be used. Please ask us any questions you have about techniques. We are here to help!
Spinal adjustments for young children involve very light finger-tip adjustments to correct malfunctioning spinal structures. A light spinal adjustment, using no more than two pounds of pressure, is usually sufficient to restore mobility to spinal joints, which have become locked and are causing interference with the nervous system’s normal function. Most adjustments make a “popping” sound when the spinal joints are moved. However, this sound is not always heard when children’s spines are adjusted.
Start Strong. Stay Strong!
Children’s spines are a lot more mobile than those of adults and, as a result, usually require only a few adjustments to restore normal function. However, the actual number of adjustments may vary depending on the length of time the condition has been present.
Our best recommendation is to give your child every opportunity to start strong and stay strong naturally. We find that those children who receive chiropractic care are some of the healthiest on the planet.
