Your Guide to a Healthy, Tick-Free Summer in Linfield, PA

Summer adventures in Pennsylvania are the best—picnics, hiking trails, yard work, and family time in the great outdoors. But guess what else loves this weather? Ticks!
Tick season is in full swing, and at McCormick Chiropractic, Dr. Karen McCormick and Dr. Bill Keenan want to ensure you and your family stay healthy, active, and protected.
Here in Linfield, we’re surrounded by beautiful outdoor spaces—and with that comes a higher risk of tick bites and Lyme disease. But don’t worry! With a few smart habits, you can confidently reduce your risk and enjoy the season.
Top Tips to Outsmart Ticks This Season
Stay Trail-Savvy: Stick to the center of trails—ticks love hanging out in tall grass and brushy edges.
Choose Your Repellent Wisely: Use natural options like lemon eucalyptus oil or EPA-approved repellents like DEET or permethrin. And don’t forget to apply it to shoes and socks too!
Do the Tick Check: After outdoor time, do a full-body scan. Look carefully—ticks are tiny and sneaky. Don’t forget behind the ears, knees, and waistband areas.
Rinse & Repeat: A quick shower within two hours of being outside helps wash off ticks you may have missed and gives you another chance to check your skin.
Chiropractic Care & Immune Health Go Hand-in-Hand
Did you know your nervous system plays a significant role in your immune response? Regular chiropractic adjustments help your body function at its best—so you’re more resilient to everything from stress and inflammation to environmental exposures.
At McCormick Chiropractic, Dr. Karen and Dr. Bill go beyond back pain. They support whole-body wellness with natural, personalized care that keeps you moving and thriving through every season.
Free Tick Testing for Pennsylvania Residents
If you find a tick on yourself, your child, or your pet—don’t panic! Pennsylvania residents can take advantage of free tick testing through the Pennsylvania Tick Research Lab at East Stroudsburg University.
Here’s how it works:
- Remove the tick carefully using fine-tipped tweezers.
- Place it in a sealed plastic bag (no tape or alcohol).
- Submit your tick online at ticklab.org/test-my-tick.
- Mail it in using the instructions provided.
The lab will test your tick for common pathogens, such as Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Results are typically available within three business days.
This free service, supported by the PA Department of Health, helps you and your healthcare provider make informed decisions quickly.
